Educational Technology Research and Development – (ETR&D) is an international scholarly journal concerned with the application of learning technologies and their ongoing development in education and universities worldwide. The journal is written biweekly and can usually access its contents upon request.
This journal has two main objectives:
(a) to stimulate international cooperation in educational technology research and development;
(b) to provide academics with research opportunities and data. In addition, the journal also publishes short reports, case studies, and one-of-a-kind student works that explore the uses and development of new educational technologies.
Educators can benefit from this information, especially those involved in the development of educational technology. It is due to the fact that technological developments have occurred at such a rapid pace that it is difficult for educators to keep up with all the advances that are being made. That has left many teachers in a situation where they have to either adapt their teaching methods or adopt technology, a move that can prove costly and frustrating. On the other hand, these same teachers are in a position of power when it comes to selecting and using these technologies.
Because of this situation, educational technology development has been underway for some time. In fact, the process has become a target for political debate in many countries. One of the most pressing issues involves the use of computer technology in educational settings. Studies indicate that there are adverse effects when computer use is prohibited in the classroom. Such devices have proven to be a distraction that can cause interruptions in the flow of teaching and can also cause trouble listening during class time. Most educators agree that the key to education is interaction and that the use of computers in the classroom can significantly enhance the educational experience for students.
Several different elements are included when considering the impact of technology in instruction. The use of educational technology in classrooms is not confined to the teaching of basic skills. Students are able to gain access to text-based learning systems that offer lessons in grammar, punctuation, spelling, and other educational topics. In addition, it can also use various forms of electronic communication to enhance the educational experience. Video games, for example, can play a big part in improving learning.
However, technology has other benefits as well. Video games, for example, are helpful in fostering student learning through the interactive processes that they involve. When students are engaged in the learning process, it is much easier to retain what they have learned. It is also pretty standard for students to forget things that they have learned after watching a video, which is an essential factor when it comes to educational technology. A good video game should not only be good for the student’s ability to understand instructions, but should leave them excited about learning more about the game.
In the case of applied theory and the field focusing entirely on practical aspects, technology is being utilized in ways that would have previously been considered too expensive to implement. An example of this would be the creation of the iPad. This device was initially designed as a tablet PC but transformed into a multi-touch screen that allows people to surf the internet and play games after some tinkering. Another good example is the development of software programs that are used in teaching science classes. These programs allow students to track the growth of organisms in their environment.
The comprehensive source of educational information that the research provides is an essential aspect of improving instructional technology. Teachers should be able to obtain a complete picture of how current research and practice impact the way that they teach. By reviewing the work of several different researchers, educators will be better able to determine what practical aspects are currently being practiced. By ensuring that the various practices considered are of value in the classroom, educators can ensure that the overall quality of instruction continues to improve.
The development of new instructional technologies is only one step in the process of transforming the education system of the twenty-first century. The comprehensive source of information that these experts create is only the beginning. Educators need to be able to discern which scientific methods are the most useful in the classroom and what methods seem to be the most effective in preparing young people for the real world. By paying close attention to the types of instruction currently being utilized and comparing these methods to those developed during the last century, any school can find a path forward that leads to educational success.
